Prof. was arrested in India in 2014. Dr. GN Saibaba was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2017. Saibaba, who was released on March 9, was immortalized on October 7 due to illnesses resulting from severe torture.
“It was only by luck that I survived the prison,” GN Saibaba had said in his first press release after being released from Nagpur Central Jail this year. Saibaba also spoke about the inhumane treatment and torture he was subjected to in prison for nearly 10 years. Saibaba, who was wheelchair-bound and over 90 percent disabled, was locked in the same cell and deprived of his wheelchair for more than 8 years.
